In DJ Heaven
The monitors are at head level on both sides, not more than 5 feet away, fully adjustable, crisp, EQ'd, with no mic feed, and paired with enough subs to isolate you from the front of house rig.
The mixer is an industry standard model with no crunchy faders, loose earth leads or missing EQ pots. It's not hard wired into the house PA.
The decks are Technics 1210/1200s with the pitch click removed, tuned to +/-8%, seated on concrete and foam, slightly below chest height, spirit-levelled with the tonearm height adjusted for optimal tracking and back-cue stability.
The slipmats are slippy, the needles, headshells and cartridges are identical to give even output signal, and they haven't been sellotaped on to the tonearm by a paranoid venue manager.
The CDJs work, every time, even with the CDR that just fell in a puddle of beer. You can read the CDJ display without opera glasses and reach it without a step ladder. The on-screen menu is not in Japanese.
There's a bandolier of headphone adaptors strapped to the front of the mixer.
At soundcheck, someone hefty has jumped up and down hard near the decks to see if they're going to skip when your adoring fans leap on stage.
The DJ before you says 'this is my last one' at five minutes and 30 seconds to the hour.
At Playback we understand DJing isn't all flashbulbs and free beer, so we help you forget about the technology and let you be the connection between music and crowd. Call us today on 01273 671 297 for a quote or to discuss your sound system requirements.
